SEQ's world class manufacturing sectors feature at G20 with help from RDA

South east Queensland's up and coming advanced manufacturing sectors were showcased to world leaders at the recent G20 Summit, thanks to input from the consortia of SEQ RDAs, led by RDA Brisbane.

G20 delegates toured The Cube Globe at QUT's Gardens Point campus, a world-first spatial platform developed in partnership with the Queensland Government which uses state-of-the-art immersive visualisation, interactive maps, animation and multi-media to tell compelling stories about trade and investment opportunities in SEQ and Queensland.

Momentum building for human bionics industry

Industry and government support is coalescing around the development of the human bionics sector in Australia - with south east Queensland as the epicentre - following its identification as a priority in the RDA SEQ Advanced Manufacturing Specialisations Joint Action Plan, and a subsequent RDA Brisbane masterclass on the potential of the industry at CLICK! Digital Expo earlier this year.

400 proposals received for the new infrastructure fund

More than 400 proposals from across Australia have been lodged for projects under the first round of the Australian Government's new $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF).

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss (pictured) welcomed 405 applications from not-for-profit entities and local governments, and praised the strong level of interest from regional communities.

NBN rollout update for Brisbane

Construction of the National Broadband Network (NBN) has now commenced in Taigum and Boondall, and build preparations are underway in Parkinson, Runcorn, Virginia, Wavell Heights and Northgate.

Preparation for a fibre to the node (FTTN) trial area north of Brisbane have also commenced, and will include Brendale, Lawnton, Joyner, Bray Park, Cashmere and Warner. To check the status of your business or home address, click here.

Intern to help RDA update SEQ regional indicators

RDA Brisbane will be updating and enhancing regional indicators for SEQ and national competitiveness over the next few months, with help from international student Miguel Garces, who is currently in Australia to complete a Masters of Development Economics at the University of Queensland.

Miguel has come to RDA Brisbane through the Australian Internships program, and has already completed a Master of Economics and Business Management in his native Ecuador, following a career as a systems and computer science engineer.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk (pictured left) is determined to ensure Brisbane capitalises on the economic outcomes of the G20 Leaders Summit and has tasked economic development board Brisbane Marketing with charting an ambitious growth plan for the city.

Nominations are still open for positions on the RDA Brisbane Committee in 2015. Applicants with vision, drive and business experience, who are knowledgeable about Brisbane's economic strengths and challenges, and are interested in giving something back to their community are encouraged to consider submitting an EOI.
